Song of the Week: Sunlight To My Soul by Angélique Kidjo

A celebration of love: A most needed festive record

The legend Angélique Kidjo is back with her new single Sunlight to my Soul, a track written by the great Diane Warren (I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith) and produced by Shizzi (Love My Baby by Wizkid). In this track shared with the Soweto Gospel Choir, we have a mixture of afrobeat, gospel and call & response. The lyrics celebrate the love and trust in a relationship, by using simple yet effective vocabulary: “you’re the light that keeps shining”, “you hold me tighter and everything is brighter”.

Kidjo and the choir’s vocal technique is impeccable, rich in harmonies and full of life, inviting us to celebrate and dance with them, in all: a true optimistic record that is most needed right now.
