Album review: Contemplation by Huw Montague Rendall

An opus to inspire: a triumphant debut

Huw Montague Rendall delights us with his debut album Contemplation, a compilation of arias from French, German, Italian and English operas. Alongside the Opéra Orchestre of Rouen Normandy, Rendall’s talent shines through his interpretations, ranging from heartbreak, playfulness and languish.

For the barytone, this opus is a ”feeling of raw humanity” (H.M Rendall, Warner Classics interview) and a chance to put hardships into art to inspire others to liberate themselves. Throughout the album, we meet this rawness, with Rendall’s sensational acting skills making us explore the different characters and their stories.

Huw Montague Rendall signs his triumphant debut as a recording artist, demonstrating his sensibility and finesse.  His vocal technique is exemplary through his facility to switch from powerful vocals to more gentle ones. Through his interpretations, Rendall’s wish to inspire us to liberate us from the pain is a success, for his voice makes place for a journey of discovery.

Contemplation is more than a first opus, it is the share of human experiences to encourage others to do the same.
