The path of self-acceptance

MTV, the second track on Yseult’s latest album Mental, reflects upon self-sabotage and ambitions to liberate oneself from judgment and pain.

With influences such as Hedonism Skunk Anansie and Zombie by the Cranberries, Yseult’s alternative rock realm immerses us in her inner thoughts.

The song opens with the sentences “It went too far, I got too deep” giving us Yseult’s mental state. Throughout the song, the singer confesses on an old toxic relationship, where an ex love wished for her to feel pain: “You wanted me so hard to treat me bad”. Regardless, she now is trying to free herself from their negativity: “I’m trying so hard to treat me better”.

Yseult’s powerful vocals and delivery express with ease the rage and powerlessness she felt, trapped in a bad cycle. The production, made by the singer, transports us into her sonic world with elements of alternative rock.

MTV is a powerful song, touching upon deep subjects with great vulnerabilty and candor. A track to listen to, in repeat.
