Isn’t It a Pity appears on George Harrison’s third studio album, All Things Must Pass.
In this song, Harrison expresses his sadness towards humain kind: “isn’t it a shame, how we break each other hearts and cause each other pain”. Throughout this record, the singer denounces the many flaws of humans, including their greed: “how we take each other’s love without thinking anymore, forgetting to get back”.
George Harrison’s songwriting is outstanding, with lyrics filled with poetry and profoundness. The instrumental and vocals are here to serve the lyrics and to add meaning to them, without doing too much.
Harrison continues his observation, stating to be weary of our sorrow, for it can makes us blind to the world: “and because of all of their tears, they eyes can’t hope to see the beauty that surrounds them”. The singer also denounces discrimination, with the lyrics reading: “but how do I explain when not too many people can see we’re all the same?”.
Isn’t It a Pity is a masterpiece, giving us a deep insight into our society and searches to make us understand our flaws. In hopes to make us see, the beauty in all of us.
