The time machine of a love story
A letter to an old lover
Remember the Time, the second single from the album Dangerous (1992), paints the memories of a love story between two young people.
Throughout the song, Michael Jackson shares his sadness and nostalgia: “Do you remember when we fell in love? We were young and innocent then”. He continues on: “It just seemed like Heaven so why did it end?”, implying his regret over their relationship fading. With him, we go back to the honeymoon phase of their relationship, wishing for them to be real again: “You know we’d stay on the phone at night till dawn […] every morning birds would sing”. Remember the time, despite its fun and catchy production, is a call for an old time, to be alive once more.
