Song review: Ruined Me by Muni Long

A promising comeback single:
A classic R&B ballad

Ruined Me, the first single of Muni Long’s upcoming album Revenge, takes from traditional R&B ballads, continuing on the path of her last body of work (Public Displays of Affection: The Album, 2022).

We find again Long’s soulful vocals trademark, with an instrumental composed of a bass, keyboard, drum kit and violins, putting the voice at the front of the song. The lyrics are straightforward, with the singer confessing to a past love her heartbreak and fears of a future relationship. She confesses her faults “I won’t pretend I was perfect” and warns her potential new love, stating that her past relationship “ruined” her, making it impossible to love her again.

Ruined Me, is a pure R&B record, perfectly expressing the pain of two souls parting from each other and learning to be whole again, giving us a little taste of what we can expect for Muni Long’s new album.
