IA has just been green lighted by big labels, here’s what it means
More easy money, less artistry
IA music labels like Suno and Udio have recently won a settlement with Warner Music Group, worsening the situation for artists all over the world.
This settlement led to negotiations to find a common ground, meaning that big labels like Warner Music Group, Sony Music Group and Universal Music Group could legally only use IA for creating music and profit from it.
IA music has been everywhere for the past years, so why does this change anything?
What the industry will soon look like
With this “common ground” found will do:
- Allow big labels to create full lA projects, and earn money from it
- Blurring even more the barrier between lA generated and human made
- More difficulties for the real artists to compete with this new market
What can you do as a listener?
Some ways to support real artists:
- Privelege indepedent artists and labels
- Choose carefully you’re streaming platforms and if you can, buy the music to support the artists
- Listen more to niche artists
- When a project is released on platforms like Youtube from a big artist, verifying on their socials and websites that it is indeed a genuine song from them
Overall…
If you care about music and artistry (film, painting, danse, etc), be careful to what you consume.
The algorithms on social media will even more promote lA generated content.
We need to continue to denounce this type of practice, but also try to not engage with lA generated content.
