The trombonist Robinson Khoury has released the first single, Poussière, from his upcoming album. Performed with his musical partners Léo Jassef and Anissa Nehari, Khoury delivers a heart wrenching track paying homage to the victims of war around the world.
A call for unity
Poussière (meaning dust) is a powerful piece, blending Arabic and electro music. With Khoury’s warm and bittersweet playing, the trombone becomes a vessel for those who have lost their voice. Tastefully crafted, the instrumental, built around synths and drums, draws us into a spiraling headspace through its repetitive patterns, embodying the current state of our world. This same motif can also be interpreted as a symbol of the circle of life, ever-continuing. For Robinson Khoury, Poussière represents “mourning the lives that left this earth too early”, a statement that invites us to reflect on our condition as human beings.
It is a breathtaking and emotional journey that is breaking barriers both musically and culturally, calling for a change and, most of all, unity.
