Always Near marks the first solo album by guitarist Pierre Tereygeol, revisiting his instrument and delivering one of the most ambitious projects of the year.
For Pierre Tereygeol, this new project originated from a search for singularity, something that the listener can sense throughout this bold opus. From the opening track Another Island, the carefully crafted vocal harmonies demonstrate the subtlety of Pierre Tereygeol’s writing. This quest for singularity unfolds across the different tracks, introducing the listener to a new way of conceiving the guitar. Here, the instrument no longer serves as only an accompaniment: it is at the core of the music. On tracks such as Another Island, the guitar transforms into a percussive instrument, showcasing the musician’s technical capacities.
His vocal abilities are equally noteworthy, showing a great ease in transitioning from chest voice to falsetto, delivering poignant performances. As a composer and lyricist, Pierre Tereygeol confides himself through his lyrics, both poetic and powerful: “Nobody knows highs and lows that’s how it goes” (Silent Storm) and “Not so happy with what you found with what you vowed” (Circles of Smoke).
One of the highlights of this album is without doubt Disparaître Dans Le Miroir (Disappearing through the mirror), featuring cellist Guillaume Latil, who brings a touch of enchantment. The two worlds of Pierre Tereygeol and Guillaume Latil complement each other to perfection, serving a graceful and sensitive piece.
What makes Always Near so special is its ability to surprise the listener at every track, embarking them into a out of body experience, defying genre boundaries.
A body of work to discover and to enjoy, without restraint!
